Blue Mermaid Happy Hour
Blue Mermaid Happy Hour — Fisherman’s Wharf
The Blue Mermaid chowder is not an afterthought. It won the San Francisco Business Times “Value for Your Money” award in the Restaurant category and earned a TripAdvisor Top 1% Restaurants Worldwide pick for 2025. Most happy hours in San Francisco use happy hour as the time to clear yesterday’s stock; ours uses it as the time to feed the regulars at a price they’ll come back at.
The view is the second reason. Blue Mermaid sits at the corner of Hyde and Jefferson, on the patio side facing San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park’s Aquatic Park Cove. From the bar you see Alcatraz dead ahead, the Golden Gate Bridge to your left, and the historic ships of Hyde Street Pier in the foreground. There is no other Wharf-area happy hour with that angle.
The third reason is logistic: walk-ins are easy. Most of the Wharf’s volume is daytime tourist traffic; happy hour traffic skews local. We rarely turn away a small party at 5:00 on a Tuesday.

When to come

Best for quiet conversation: 4:00 PM weekday opening. The bar is empty, the chowder is fresh, the bartender will tell you about that day’s catch.
Best for after-work groups (4–8 people): Reserve. The patio’s two largest tables are reservable through 5:00 PM or directly with the host.
Best for visitors who walked over from Pier 39: Any time; the bar always has seats.
The bar program
The bar is run by Blue Mermaid’s beverage team led by Chef Amod’s longtime collaborator. Wine list is California-leaning (Sonoma, Carneros, Anderson Valley) with a small Burgundy and northern Italian section. Seasonal cocktails are always on the menu.
Beer is rotating local — Anchor (when available), Anchor Steam’s spiritual successors at Fort Point, Cellarmaker, 21st Amendment. Two NA options, always.
FAQ
Is Blue Mermaid happy hour every day?
Yes — daily, year-round. We don’t go dark on holidays.
Can I get the happy hour menu inside the dining room?
Happy hour pricing applies in the bar and on the patio only. Dining room tables order from the regular dinner menu.
Do I need a reservation?
No, walk-ins are welcome and we usually have seats. If you’re a party of 4–8 or you want a specific patio table, reservations help — call the host stand or book through the hotel’s reservation line.
Is there outdoor seating?
Yes. Patio is open weather dependent. Heat lamps are on when it’s cold.
What’s the dress code?
None. This is the Wharf, not Nob Hill. Layers are smart year-round; the wind picks up after 5 PM.
Is Blue Mermaid kid-friendly during happy hour?
Children are welcome anytime. The happy hour menu has a fish-and-chips smaller plate that kids tend to like; we’ll happily make a smaller chowder portion.
Is Blue Mermaid dog-friendly?
Service animals always welcome inside. Dogs are welcome on the patio (heat-lamp side too) — water bowls on request.
Is there a separate seafood restaurant menu?
Blue Mermaid serves an eclectic menu. Visit our website to view the menu.
